I always knew I wanted to write, but I didn’t have an idea for a book.

It was massively frustrating.

So for many years I concentrated on music, playing the Hammond organ in dozens of bands in Brighton and London.

Then, in the summer of 2010, on a beach in Cyprus, I had my first idea: a one armed detective called Gunzabo. My wife told me he should have a ferret up his sleeve.

A year later I had my second idea: a tropical island where the 27 Club live. Having escaped their unwanted fame, they hang out and party and contemplate the meaning of life. All there together. Jimi, Jim, Kurt. And others: Elvis, Marilyn, River. All my rock and film heroes, all in one place.

I spent three years combining these two ideas into a novel, which was published by Alliance Publishing Press as Dead Star Island. I’m now working on my second novel.

'A trippy page turner.'
