Gunzabo Q&A

I interviewed Mario Gunzabo, Greece’s most famous detective. Here are his responses.
What’s with the ferret?
Andrew Shantos
What do you mean? How do you know about the ferret?
Gunzabo
You are from Cyprus. But why did you move to Greece to begin your career in the police force?
Andrew Shantos
I love homicide. Well… you know what I mean. There are not enough psychopaths in Cyprus, so I chose Athens where there are many, many of them – some of whom simply drive taxis, and some of whom choose serial murder.
Gunzabo
Gunzabo… not very Cypriot sounding is it?
Andrew Shantos
Cyprus is a melting point of cultures. My father (god curse him) was born in Tarsus in Asia Minor. On my passport, my full name is Marios Vassos Gunzabopoulos.
Gunzabo
What is your favourite drink?
Andrew Shantos
Whisky is my drink of choice. But when I’m in a party mood, I have a secret penchant for Campari. Don’t tell anyone though.
Gunzabo
Why tennis?
Andrew Shantos
I always loved tennis. Before I became a detective, I had a promising career, and won the Larnaca Singles Shield two years running. So I suppose you could say it was my backup plan.
Gunzabo
Isn’t tennis difficult with one arm?
Andrew Shantos
Not really, though I was known for my double handed backhand, which is now rather tricky. One armed players have a special dispensation from the International Tennis Federation when it comes to serving. Besides, I coach tennis but I do not take part in tournaments any more.
Gunzabo
Holmes had Moriarty. Who is your arch enemy?
Andrew Shantos
No one. Not since we locked up Stavros The Bull. Applicants are most welcome.
